The 1st International Conducting Competition in honor of Andreas Makris was organized in Belgrade, Serbia, from 24th of June 2019 until 1st of July. The international jury made of conductors and educators from USA, United Kingdom, Russia, Norway, Italy, Switzerland and the Balkans judged over 80 competitors of which 40 were invited to come to Belgrade to conduct the award winning Makris Symphony Orchestra at the Kolarac Concert Hall in Belgrade.

Each conductor had the opportunity to conduct in variety of settings, including chamber and symphony orchestra, with or without a soloist. It was our aim to find the best "all around" conductor. The voting process allowed fairness in every stage of the evaluation, because the jury voted immediately after each conductor's appearance, without consultation with each other. The competitors have been judged on their conducting technique, musicality, rehearsal technique as well as their charisma and leadership (i.e. how well they communicated with the orchestra and the audience).

The international included:
- Mo Predrag Gosta, president (USA/Serbia)
- Mo Alexander Polianichko (Russia)
- Mo Jonathan Brett (United Kingdom)
- Mo Steven Moore (USA)
- Mo Jorn Fossheim (Norway)
- Mo Tomislav Facini (Croatia)
- Mo Dimitri Scarlato (Italy/UK)
- Mr Aleksandar Simic, composer (Serbia)
- Mr Miroslav Pavlovic, concertmaster (Serbia)
- Mr Andre Laurent O'Neil, cellist and pianist (USA)
- Mr Petar Vidovic, clarinetist and actor (UK)
- Mr Ognian Draganoff, opera director (Bulgaria)

Interested conductors submitted a video with TWO CONTRASTING PIECES from a standard repertoire of their own choice. 40 conductors will be selected based on the video submission.
